This space is to keep those that are interested
about what happened with our wedding plans. Of course,
like everything else, it's under construction. Still. You would think that by now, I'd have it done, but NOOOOOO!, I'm still working on it.
The Engagement Announcement
Well, the announcement was printed in the Roanoke Times on Sunday, June 2, with only one
typo. DOH! Fortunately, this was not my fault. Anyway, below is the text for the announcement.
"Barbara Poff and Christopher Fischer are engaged and planning to be married on October 5, 1996 in Roanoke. She is the daughter of Mr. David Poff of Roanoke and Mrs. Karon Ferguson of Elizabeth, New Jersey. She graduated from Northside High School and attended Hollins College. She is employed by American Management Systems, a Fairfax consulting firm. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Spires of Virginia Beach. He graduated from Green Run High School and is currently finishing his degree at Virginia Tech. He is employed by Virginia Tech Communication Network Services."
The Wedding Party
We managed to put together the wedding party relatively quickly. These
are the people that we're quite pleased to have standing with us:
Bride Barbara Poff Groom Chris Fischer
Matron of Honor Tamara Stoneburner Best Man Doug Warden
Bridesmaid Denise Rich Groomsman David Martin
Bridesmaid Tessa Dalton Groomsman Greg Fischer
Bridesmaid Tara Hawkins Groomsman Spiros Souras
Details of the Wedding
The colors of the wedding are slate grey for the men, royal blue for the
bridal party, and ivory for the bride. You might be asking yourself, "Why not white?"
It's simply because when I wear white, I look like all of the blood has been sucked
from my body. Somehow "undead" is not the fashion statement I want to make on that day. :)
The wedding invitations are still up in the air. We found a wonderfully simple invitation; it's
a two-fold ivory paper with a thin strip of a royal blue marble paper as a border.
I managed not to lose the sample, but I did lose the catalog. (sigh)
So, I re-ordered the catalog I think it came from.
If everyone who's on the invitation list shows up and brings a guest to the wedding,
there will be 226 people there at the church.
Woo-hoo! I finally picked out and ordered my dress! YES! I can finally mark that
off of my "things to do" list!
The bridesmaid dress pattern has been picked out and is now in the hands of the seamstress.
The Bride's Apparel
Okay, as mentioned above, I did finally get around to ordering my dress. It came in about four days after I ordered
it, which was very nice. It only has two problems :
The sleeves are a bit too long.
The neckline... well, it plunges
a bit too far.
It would seem that the model they used in the catalog was really
tall with no chest. I, unfortunately, am not that gifted in the height department.
So, it's going to have to be hiked up in the front and I may wind up having to put a lace panel
in the front so people don't talk to my cleavage all day. :)
The Wedding Itself
Stay tuned for more gory details and possibly even some jpgs displaying us and our friends and families
in all our wedding finery.
The Honeymoon
Well, due to financial constraints, we had to put off
going anywhere until at least the spring of 1997. However, my grandparents arranged
for us to have a quiet evening in a hotel far from our roommate and our crazy friends.
We're also planning a short trip to a bed-and-breakfast in Abdingdon.
